Post Mobilization Assistance for National Guard and Reserve

You will be given an opportunity to enroll in Department of Veterans Affairs world class health care and dental care and evaluation when you arrive at the demobilization stations across the country as well as learn about how to access health and dental care at the local VA and other VA services and benefits you are eligible to receive prior to your separation from active duty and returning home to reserve status.

You will be given an opportunity for VA staff to personally reach out to returning service members/veterans by phone or at the military unit to identify if they have health care, dental or other needs or concerns in this post-deployment period.

You will be given an opportunity for VA staff to answer your questions about health and dental care and other VA services by using a national call center to link you to the experts and answer your questions.

You will be given an opportunity to link with state coordinators to assist you and your family in accessing VA services and benefits that you have earned when you return home.

If you are wounded and are undergoing rehabilitation while you await your determination for a military disability, you will have an opportunity to learn about the many VA services and benefits that are available to you while you are still on active duty.

When you return from the theater you will undergo a short period of demobilization at one of the 23 Army, Navy, Marine or Air Force sites across the country. VA experts will present a brief discussion of the new health care and dental benefits that you have earned as well as assist you in completing the VA application for enrollment form on-site.
We understand that you are in a hurry to return home and we have removed the "hassle factor" by processing your form for you. You will receive official notification of your VA enrollment within 2 weeks. During this time, you are eligible to receive care at any one of our 153 VA medical centers with our trained health care professionals to evaluate your post-deployment concerns.
You are also eligible to receive counseling for you and your family members at one of our Vet Centers which are located in most communities and they also can link you to other VA health care or benefits that you will find valuable.
We personally want to welcome you to the VA family and thank you for your services. We are proud to serve you now.

PDHRA, Combat Veteran Call Center Initiative, and Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program

You will be given an opportunity for VA staff to personally reach out to returning service members/veterans by phone or at the military unit to identify if they have health care, dental or other needs or concerns in this post-deployment period. VA has developed several initiatives to meet your needs.
Once you return home, you may receive a call from a VA representative to thank you for your service, to ask you questions about your homecoming and identify if you are in need of VA services or other benefits you have earned. You may request further information to be sent to you electronically or by mail. You also may receive a return call to ensure that you received all the information that you requested or have other concerns.
At 3-6 months when you return, you will be asked to complete a Post-Deployment Health Reassessment survey at your military unit, or complete this survey on the internet. This survey will identify key areas where you might benefit from additional VA services. You will have an opportunity to receive an appointment at a specific VA clinic to further evaluate concerns that you might have.
In addition to these programs, at your unit, programs are planned for you called the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program. VA staff participates in these programs in your community and can provide valuable information to you and your family on how to access VA services and benefits that you have earned. Finally, VA Medical Centers in your community sponsor a "Welcome Home Event" to again thank you for your service to our country and offer further information about VA services as well as a tour of the local VA Medical Center to learn about the health care and dental services that you might want to participate.

Transition Assistance Advisors (NG/VA Collaboration)

Once you return home, you will have an opportunity to link with 60 state National Guard/Reserve coordinators who have been trained by the VA in services and benefits and can assist you and your family with accessing VA services you have earned.
Each state has one or two Transition Assistance Advisors (TAAs) to address your concerns and link you to the right VA services that will assist you when you return home to your community. They remove the "hassle factor" when you attempt to access health and dental care. They are also skilled in linking you to state benefits you have earned. They are assigned to the Office of the Adjutant General in each state and are an invaluable resource for you and your family in accessing VA and state resources to meet your needs.

Linkages with WTU leadership, Outreach initiative in the Disability Evaluation System (DES)

If you are wounded and are undergoing rehabilitation while you heal from your injury and await your determination for a military disability, you will have an opportunity to learn about the many VA services and benefits that are available to you while you are still on active duty. During the period that you remain in one of the 36 Warrior Transition Units (WTU) and Community Based WTUs or two Wounded Warrior Regiments, you will receive information from VA staff on VA services and benefits; assist you in enrolling in VA health care at a location that you select to receive care at home; as well as receive information about rehabilitation programs from VA's Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program. Your case manager in the WTU/WWR can also link you to local VA staff to answer any specific questions about VA services, invite you for a tour of the local VA Medical Center and enroll you into rehabilitation and employment programs sponsored by VA.
If you have received your disability rating and have separated from active duty, you may receive a letter or a call to inquire about your transition to VA and if you have any further needs or concerns about VA health care or services. VA wants to ensure that your receive all of the services that you have earned and most importantly to than you for your service.

Eligibility

Reserve and National Guard members may be eligible for VA benefits under certain conditions. View the Reserve and National Guard chapter of the "Federal Benefits for Veterans, Dependents and Survivors" booklet.

State Initiative

Severely injured service members are provided with a consent to release information form which is sent to their State's Department of Veterans Affairs (SDVA). Signing this form allows the State DVA to contact the consenting service member to inform them of STATE Veterans Benefits that are available. These benefits are provided in addition to those allowed by the USVA. In other words, they are yours to receive...with no impact on your USDVA benefits. If you or a family member are interested in participating in this program mail your respective State DVA.
